What is Collagen Induction Therapy with DermaPen?
A medical device used for the purpose of breaking down old scar tissue and stimulate skin cells for proliferation. This multiplication results in the creation of new tissue layers of elastin and collagen fibers, as well as improved blood supply.
How does it work?
The device glides gently along the skin, penetrating the layers of the skin closest to the surface, of a depth of up to 2mm to create numerous tiny needle wounds. The therapy encourages the body to respond through creation new collagen and elastin fibers. As the skin responds, it plumps and thickens, reducing the appearance of scars, wrinkles and fine lines.
What conditions does micro-needling treat?*
Mild to moderate acne scarring
Fine lines and wrinkles
Pore size and skin texture
What can I expect from the procedure?
The skin is cleaned and then for better results we use a collagen-stimulating product like Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin-C serum or skin lightener for pigmentation during the procedure. A small handheld pen like device with a sterile, disposable tip with 12 tiny needles is then used to pierce the skin. Our needling pen’s multi-speed and adjustable needle depth allow needles to pierce the skin’s layer at 90 degrees and increase the absorption of products. After the treatment, soothing Vitamin-C serum or Hyaluronic acid are used to hydrate, heal and protect the skin.
How will I look after treatment?
Sometimes. Most people will experience mild redness and possibly some swelling. The same way you may feel with a mild sunburn. Effects may last for 24-48 hours and there may be pinpoint bleeding and/or bruising. Within several days to several weeks you will notice a smoother, brighter, and more radiant appearance, however, the full effects of the treatment do not appear until several months later.
What is the down time like?
The inflammatory reaction of the skin is extremely short and fades significantly within hours from redness to pinkish that may last for 12 to 48 hours. In order to reduce visible redness, we recommend hyaluronic acid after the procedure, and to protect the skin with zinc based sunblock. The use of mineral makeup may be used after procedure.
What effects does micro-needling have on the skin?*
Improves the appearance of stretch marks
Reduces pore size
Improves the quality and texture of the skin
Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
Improves the look of disfiguring scars from surgery, accidents or acne.
Are there any risks?
The tiny pricking channels close within one hour, and because the procedure is performed under clinical conditions, the likelihood of infection occurring is extremely low.
How many treatments do I need and how often?
Micro-needling can be safely repeated every 4-6 weeks until you achieve the desired results. For collagen induction we recommend to start with 3 treatments, but with a minimum separation time of 4 to 6 weeks between treatments. For scar reduction an average of 3 to 6 treatments are recommended. The number of treatments required will depend on how each individual responds to the treatments, and the extent of the damage at the beginning Micro-needling can be used on all skin parts of the body (neck, décolleté, arms, legs, etc). Most people will begin to see results after the very first appointment.
Can micro-needling be performed for all skin types and colors?
Absolutely. It’s safe and effective for all types and colors of skin. There is no risk of post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.
What are the side effects?
There are virtually no negative side effects from the procedure. None of been reported in over 150,000 procedures performed worldwide.
How does it treat?
Dermapen treatments designed to create a safe healing response within the body to ignite natural collagen and elastin production from within the skin, without harsh side effects and downtime. Also, it along with repairs the surface layers to result in healthier skin; looking brighter, tighter, more even toned, refined pores and reduced wrinkles.
Needle penetration can now be increased up to 3.0mm. AOVN technology, automatically calibrates the motor speed, pressure and penetration for targeted precision. Consequently, this means no dragging, no pulling of the skin. Dermapen Scarring Treatments may include: atrophic scars; including surgical, burn contracture, stretch marks/striae and post-acne scars.
Unlike some laser treatments, Dermapen removes the risk of heat injury and hypopigmentation risks, whilst promoting optimised cell function. Due to this, it is a suitable procedure for any patient affected by melasma and with a predisposition to hyperpigmentation. Treatment is also suitable on all Fitzpatrick Skin Types and ethnicities. Also, Dermapen treatments clinically work in four ways to reverse the production of hyperpigmentation and melasma.
